In 2011, Do Something Greater with…

your life. In 2011 my goal is to do something greater with…all aspects of my life, so that my life might better imitate that of Christ Jesus my Eternal Savior. This will mean rethinking, refocusing, and refining everything from how I spend my time, to how I reach those who do not know Jesus. I expect that I will come under attack, I expect that I will be hated by some people, and I know that through it all God will love me beyond my understanding.

When I say: “do something greater with…” I do not mean spend 5 more minutes a day in prayer or give 5 more dollars to church, I am seeking a life that is sacrificial and conforms to the gospel not to our culture. I do not expect anything of anyone else, although I do encourage you with all my heart to seek after Jesus through reading His Word and praying with Him constantly.

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:37-38

2010 Review

Where has 2010 gone?! As we marvel at the end of the year, we wanted to reflect and share some of the things that God has done with Eternal Sunrise Ministries this year.

In 2010 ESM saw a seed slowly grow roots. These roots are first and foremost grounded in an Almighty God and His Word the Holy Bible. Without God we spin around in circles, chase words around each other, incorporate imperfect human thoughts, and accomplish nothing. Geographically ESM put down roots in Raleigh, NC. ESM has also developed roots in the way of foundational documents and principles, spending many hours working through finite details from business cards to business plans.

Over and over again the Lord God has been gracious to our poor human souls. As many times as we have faltered, confused and downtrodden, God has picked us up and given us another glimpse of plans and His awesome power. God’s grace has shown up in phone calls and emails from friends and strangers, quiet times of prayer and boisterous laughter and singing, financial blessings and helping. It is amazing to see God show up in unthinkable ways at the most necessary times in our ministry.

The foundational work of starting this ministry is not easy or glamorous. We do not have a history of starting up successful businesses or nonprofits. We instead employ a grind it out mentality, share in tasks and burdens, seek and appreciate the counsel of many who are much wiser then we are. Do not let my tone take away from the absolute satisfaction we receive from doing difficult tasks and challenging work, as we know we are called to this work and it brings us joy to do something great with our lives. We are humbled by these tasks and that leads us to praise the Lord for without His guidance, wisdom, and blessing, we could not do this work.

Much of our tangible growth this year has been in and around the city of Raleigh, NC. Raleigh is a genuine city in the heart of the Southeast; full a people with diverse backgrounds, from local Bible belters to northern transplants in the workplace.  In an attempt to build community and learn about the needs of young adults here, we have developed a community model we call: Food & Fellowship. Through opening up our home to young adults that we meet in our everyday walk, we have been able to serve and learn from an incredible array of individuals from the greater Raleigh/Durham area. In this model of serving others and building relationships, we have connected to hundreds of young adults and feel there is a clear confirmation of the vision of ESM.

From our research and relationships we have identified that a major need for young adults in our area is a dedicated facility that is focused on positive, meaningful community, programming, and entertainment, which is currently lacking. We have determined that the next appropriate step would be to rent a facility every Friday and Saturday evening for entertainment and fellowship combined with positive influences to create an atmosphere sadly lacking in our community. In identifying the needs of our facility our focus will be to rent out an existing restaurant/café that does not currently operate between the hours of 5-12 AM Friday and Saturday night.  With this space we will begin to establish an outlet for young adults seeking healthy, positive nightlife.

Thank you for taking the time to check in on us here at ESM. The only thing we can ask of you is to keep lifting us up in your prayers, that we me seek each day to follow what is good and right in the eyes of the Lord. If in your prayers you feel called to support ESM in some way, we are humbled and grateful for the gifts and talents of our brothers and sisters, and would love to connect with you further. May the grace and might of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you always,

Dan, Ben, Sean, & Larron

We Train for the Eternal Prize

Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
